Among them, China's 952 million tons, accounting for 51.9% of the global proportion, decreased by 54.7 million tons or 5.4% year-on-year; 882 million tons were excluded from countries and regions other than China, an increase of 103 million tons or 13.2% year-on-year. The double-digit growth in international markets contrasted sharply with the downward trend in China. It is predicted that the global steel consumption in 2022 will be 1.881 billion tons, an increase of only 0.4% year-on-year, far below the level of the previous year. Judging from the situation in the past 30 years, the engine driving the growth of global steel consumption has rapidly shifted to China, but the growth rate has changed from a deepening dependence on China to a trend of gradual loosening.

Affected by the new crown epidemic and geopolitical conflicts, the global steel trade volume has shown a further downward trend. According to the statistics of the World Steel Association (WSA), the global steel export volume (including finished and semi-finished steel products, the same below) will reach 400 million tons in 2020, a decrease of 40 million tons from the previous year and the fourth consecutive year of decline; The proportion dropped from 31.3% in 2016 to 22.9%, the lowest proportion in the past 30 years, and a cumulative drop of 8.4 percentage points.
